What We Offer

The word luminous can mean enlightening – one of the major problems that arises in couples is the inability to communicate effectively , leading to misunderstandings , negative interpretations, arguments or withdrawal .

Whether a couple is hoping to resolve their differences and stay together , or separate as amicably as possible – we can help.

For many couples in crisis, long-term counselling can be impractical in terms of arranging regular sessions. This is particularly true if both partners are working or have young children. By using in-depth personality tests to explore differences in each personality and behaviour and communication with each other, a new approach is used that can be both effective and less time-consuming.

Using the Lumina learning Spark , couples can be seen for one long session. With two psychologists (one male, one female) feedback can be given on the analysis of the responses to the Lumina inventory. Differences can be pointed out, along with guidance on how to understand each other better, modify unhelpful behaviours and communicate more effectively with each other.

In a pilot study , follow-up showed that all the couples felt that they had benefited considerably from the experience.

Lumina Learning Spark Personality Assessment was developed by Dr Stewart Desson through an international study of personality. Stewart’s goal was to create a personality assessment which could be applied more universally than other assessments, e.g. cross culturally and in occupational and outside of work settings.

Lumina Spark is the next generation of professional development tools supporting individuals, couples and teams to communicate more effectively. It avoids stereotyping, as it doesn’t label people or put them in any box. However, it does provide a highly interactive, colourful framework for better self-understanding and helps people identify how to build their relationships with others.

As Spark was developed only 10 years ago, it was able to build on the experience and research of close to 100 years of personality research. The basis of Lumina Spark is the Big Five model of personality that is extensively used in the world of academia for research and the world of business for selection and development of talent.

The Big Five Model refers to five broad personality traits , namely – openness , conscientiousness , extraversion, agreeableness , and neuroticism.

Many contemporary personality psychologists believe that these are the five basic dimensions of personality.

Rather than taking a narrow approach and looking at only certain aspects of personality, Spark takes a holistic approach that even embraces the paradox that some personalities might embody opposite traits. For example, we can be both extroverted and introverted dependent on the context or situation. The assessment also looks at personality as something that is dynamic rather than static, as our behavior can sometimes differ from our underlying trait, and that is just a part of who we are.

Spark can enable a better understanding of the self and of others. It is important to be aware of our own personality biases as we might misread others’ behavior due to our own preferences. In the assessment and the report, there is a strong focus on developing oneself through better understanding of one’s own personality, and how can one be more effective through better leveraging of preference and more understanding about the preferences of others.
